Our Process
From the loom to your floor. No middlemen, no shortcuts. Every Loomé rug begins in the hands of a weaver we know personally — not an agent, not a trading house. Here's what happens between a design and a finished rug.
Step 01
Design
Every rug starts with a conversation. Choose from our existing collections, or bring your own idea: a size, a colour story, a pattern you've seen and want reimagined.
We work with you to translate that vision into something a weaver can actually put on a loom — scale, knot density, motif placement, and a palette pulled from our range of vegetable-dyed wool and silk shades.
Step 02
Material
We use only wool and silk, and only natural fibre — no synthetic blends. Wool is hand-spun, prized for the same qualities that make Ghazni wool famous: a natural lanolin content that gives the finished rug a soft, light-catching sheen, and enough tensile strength to last generations.
Silk is reserved for pieces where we want extra depth of lustre and finer detail work.
Step 03
Dyeing
Every colour in our rugs comes from vegetable and other organic dyes, never chemical ones. This is slower and less predictable than synthetic dyeing — which is exactly why it produces colours synthetic dye can't: warmth, depth, and a patina that improves with age instead of fading flat.
It's also why no two dye lots are perfectly identical, which we consider a feature of handmade, not a flaw.
Step 04
Weaving
This is where time becomes the raw material. A hand-knotted rug is built one knot at a time, by hand, on a vertical loom. A single piece can take weeks to months depending on size and knot density.
Our kilims and dhurries are handwoven flat, using a different technique suited to their lighter, reversible construction. Either way, the artisan working your rug is a named weaver we know personally — not an anonymous factory line.
Step 05
Finishing
Once off the loom, a rug is washed to set the dyes and soften the pile, then trimmed and inspected by hand.
Every finished piece is checked for consistency in knot count, colour, and edge work before it's approved to ship.
Step 06
Delivery
We're based in Lahore, and every rug ships from our own warehouse — no third-party fulfilment. Order and you can view the rug in person anywhere in Pakistan for a nominal delivery fee, which is waived entirely if you go ahead with the purchase.
Local, Lahore-based customers can also arrange to see rugs directly at our warehouse.
Rug Care & Services
Owning a Loomé rug doesn't end at delivery. A handmade rug is a long-term relationship, and we're set up to look after yours well beyond the sale.
Service 01
Washing
Every rug we handle can go through a proper deep wash: hand-scrubbed, rinsed until the water runs clear, and dried flat in the open air.
It lifts embedded dirt and dust from years of foot traffic, refreshes the colour, and restores the pile's natural sheen — well beyond what a home vacuum or spot clean can do.
Service 02
Overdyeing
If a rug's original palette has faded, or simply doesn't suit a new space anymore, we offer overdyeing: a fresh layer of colour applied over the existing pattern.
Depending on how much pigment is used, the original motifs can stay faintly visible beneath the new tone, or be fully transformed into a bolder, more contemporary colourway.
Service 03
Restoration
From reinforcing worn edges to reweaving moth damage or reknotting a threadbare patch, restoration work is done entirely by hand.
We match the original wool, dye lot, and knot density as closely as possible, so the repair settles into the rug rather than standing out from it.
Service 04
Custom Rug Padding
We cut and fit rug pads to the exact size of your piece, in a density and grip suited to your floor — hardwood, tile, or carpet.
A properly fitted pad keeps the rug flat, stops it shifting underfoot, and adds a bit of extra cushioning and longevity to the piece itself.
Service 05
Rug Rental
For photo and video shoots where a rug plays a supporting role rather than the main subject, select pieces from our collection are available to rent.
Against a security deposit and an agreed rental fee, you're welcome to bring one of our rugs onto set. Any damage during the rental period is assessed afterward and billed separately according to the work needed.
